Broomfield

This board is inspired by my brother.  He's a digital artist always exploring his ideas, creating work unique to his perspective, and actively participating in his art community.  I'm inspired by him.  I want that through woodworking.

He fell in love with Colorado after moving there and it's become a big part of his life.  Aspen, the very light wood, is a tree often associated with the state and is a beautifully light wood that also plays a secondary role in this design.

He also recently married and his partner's favorite wood is Acacia (it's not hard to see why).  There are over 1000 species of Acacia and some of the most beautiful woods on earth are in this family.  And a very notable thing about the kind of Acacia we see most often used with food products is the strong contrast between heartwood and sapwood.  The sapwood, the outer rings, is typically an almost white color where as the Heartwood typically is much darker and with interesting figuring.

Bringing these ideas together, the Aspen is the sapwood, the Acacia is the heartwood and the repeating blocks are a numeric pattern of 3-5-7, representing a more digital approach to the tree's layout.  The first ring of the lighter colored curly maple is the cambium layer in the tree and the outer ring of black walnut is the bark.
