Good Morning

I love mornings when I'm traveling.  For work or with family, while usually there's a broader reason why I'm there the schedule is flexible.  Each morning presents the opportunity to start a new chain reaction of choices.  It's a new opportunity to create something and connect with someone or have an adventure.  That feeling draws me in.

As the second universal symbol of morning (after sunshine), crispy bacon has been a memorable part of many new opportunities in my professional life and of many fond memories of traveling with my family.  This piece is an opportunity to celebrate the people in my life that have created warm and happy mornings to help me start those adventures by sharing their love of bacon.  They've added a richness to my life (and my diet) I am so grateful for.

There are three levels of viewing for this piece.  From across the room it's crispy bacon with burnt edges.  Closer, maybe looking at it from across the table you'll see the heirloom scales.  I'm really enjoying designing with the heirloom scale pattern and this is an experimental learning piece. I'm incorporating two construction themes to see how they play together and learn from the experience of pairing the two.  Once the board makes it your way, looking close-up you'll see my attempt to keep the lines of every tile continuous between the divisions of the different woods.  My intent was to keep the lines of those tiles continuous to act as a cohesive element between the different colors.
